What a Beautiful Sunset

I saw such an inspirational sunset on Friday night. As I watched "Hope For Hati" full of hope, I put these memories together in order.

Now I want to share them with you because I"m a little weird like that.

It was one of the best nights looking out my window and I hope you enjoy it. Don't miss the two ships passing triptych below. It's like three different sunsets in three minutes.

From start to finish, enjoy tonight's Bronx sunset over the Hudson.

Smoke on the Water, Fire in the Skies. It’s an omen you know. Here in the Bronx when the water is smoking the sunset will be a fine one.

This often happen when the water and air are very different temperatures. Often on the first cold day of autumn there is steam rising from the water. sometimes the river turns into a water hugging cloud. Today there were wisps of smoke like clouds traveling south.

The late afternoon sun;

Did you ever see that movie "Go" with a young Katie Holmes describing sex like a Christmas present. I remember seeing that in the movie theater and thinking that how I describe sunsets. You usually just don't know. It could be way to bright and then at the last moment interesting clouds roll in or it could be perfect and then everything falls apart. On very rare occasions, like tonight, the view comes with a guarantee.

Those clouds are not to thick or thin but just right.

And then it got a little too bright.

But the horizon acts as a sunset gobo.

Just past sunset the camera still sees the light but it is only shining up.

And then the afterglow. I thought I saw a flower, the Bird of Paradise. Or is it just a fan of light?

Followed by two ships passing in the night.

And what looked like a wall of light.

Just one more view before passing into night.

Here's some good news. While there is still plenty of winter ahead the days are getting longer and Friday was the first day this year in New York when the sun crossed the 5:00 p.m. Friday's sunset was at exactly 5:00 p.m.
